The beginning of the Barnet pictures

I’m painting a series of images of Barnet at the moment. This is the first one I’m happy with – the church near Monken Hadley. I was lucky with the weather (after 5 months of ice and snow!) and it was a good day to be out, so here it is. I’m going to darken the rooves and retouch some small details, but essentially i think it works…

End of term

The first term at the insight School of Art has now finished – time to take stock. It’s been a great experience – I’ve drawn the same building again and again but even having the opportunity to do that is incredibly fruitful. To do it and have feedback and mentoring is great, I’ve had some great advice from Paul, Mick and from my co-students… so really looking forward to term 2! Time to get some work done to go back with! Meanwhile, here are some pics of the drawings I’ve been working on…

Painting the City of London School on Victoria Embankment

I’ve been painting the “City of London” School building rather a lot recently, sometimes from real life, other times from photos or even from previous drawings. I thought I’d go back and kill 2 birds with one stone, or, in the slightly more charming Italian version of the saying, get 2 pigeons with one bean. I wanted to paint the school on site, pssibily from quite close by and at dusk, and I also wanted to text my brand new half field easel, a departure from my habitual stool and sketchbook routine. So here’s a photo of the easel in action – a great success!

Large version of City of London School

I’m trying to fin my feet with larger paintings and with working in a Studio – I’m used to tight schedules, awkward and cramped working positions and little time, so all this comfort and time is confusing me. Here’s the latest version of the City of London School:
